ASUS Eee PC 1002HA 10-Inch Netbook Brushed Aluminized

The specs on this netbook is completely average, nothing on it warrants a 500$ price tag. It’s completely baffling how they can slap on such a high price to an average specced netbook. More like 350$, like all the other similar netbooks. It doesn’t even use an SSD! It uses a 160GB HDD, so I can’t for the life of me figure out where this hefty price comes from.
The battery life is poor. Equivalent to a 4-cell battery. Looking at other netbooks, 4-cell batteries go for much cheaper than the high performance 6-cell batteries. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with this battery’s life IF the price did not reflect a 6-cell battery (reviews give it 3.5 hours compared to Samsung’s 6.5 hours).
The keyboard is still horrible. After a dozen netbooks, ASUS still ignores all feedback and reviews on their crap keyboard design, for lack of a better word. Samsung and Acer have the perfect keyboard design, I don’t know why ASUS still disregards improving their keyboard. This is the biggest detractor.
It still weighs in at 2.65 pounds, even with the 4-cell’d equivalent battery. I expect atleast 2.4 pounds if they are going to use such a poor battery. They’ve also made the left/right click bar a single bar. It’s like they’re taking all the bad reviews from other models and applying it to their netbook.
The finish is pretty decent, coming with an aluminum finger-print free casing.
Anything else about this netbook is standard, except you’ll be paying 500$ for this one. For a “new” model, it comes with all the flaws other netbooks have strayed away from.

Ordered this computer as a gift. Got it quickly from AMAZON with their excellent shipping.
The packaging is nice and the computer comes with a case, set up is straight forward and easy. The computer itself is very solid appearing with its ‘aluminized’ finish. The display is bright and the keyboard very nice.
The WiFi did not work with my router-we had to stand within 6 feet of the router to get a hook up(Linksys router) and the connection was dropped at 15 feet. Tried different WiFi sources at relatives houses(all Linksys routers tho) and the same result. Called support, downloaded updates, visited forums and no help.-same result
Returned computer thru Amazon-they are excellent by the way-and will order a different netbook-from Amazon. Not sure if it was just that machine or a common problem with these routers.
Asus support was helpful but could not solve the problem-they responded quickly-even over the Christmas Holidays.

PROS: Little, if that is what you are looking for. It has a great webcam that is really good quality. Great for traveling. Probably one of the best, if not the best, netbooks
CONS: I found myself wanting to use everyone’s computer but my own. My problem was that I thought that I could use a netbook as my main computer and I was wrong. It has an incredibly small screen and everything is really pixelated on it. It is kind of slow, considering the fact that it was brand new but that is probably because it only has 1 gig of ram. The right shift key was in a very odd spot and you don’t understand how weird it is until you actual go to use it.
OTHER THOUGHTS: If you are looking for a netbook, I would recommend this. If not, I would recommend it only as a second computer, possibly for traveling or maybe for your children to work on??
